Report on RYYC at Scarborough Regatta

From the Commodore:

Because nothing has appeared on the web-site, modesty has precluded me from reporting to you that I won The Overall Trophy at Scarborough Yacht Club's annual regatta recently with my Contessa 26 'Contessina'. We won all 4 races in our class and understand that we had to do better than finish 20th out of about 50 boats in the final pusuit race on the last day to win the overall. In fact we finished 8th.

Five RYYC boats entered the Regatta in addition to myself with 'Contessina'. These included 'Starchick' 'Growler' 'Premier Cru' and another Contessa 26 'True Blue'. 'Starchick' who won the event last year, was Runner-Up this year. I was asked to say a few words to wind up the event at the conclusion of prize-giving on the (Bank Holiday) Monday night, which gave me an opportunity not only to thank Scarborough YC for their generous hospitality, but also to express our sympathy and condolences to the Elsom Family and the Membership of Scarborough YC due to the untimely death of their Commodore John Elsom who passed away a few days prior to the start of the regatta. We had 3 days of lovely summer weather and enjoyed some great racing - a fitting send-off to a very gracious sailor and Commdore.
